TEMPEST DESCRIPTION
Tempest is a human computer interface that enables a human body to interact with an invisible and immaterial object, in this case a multilayered sphere, to produce and control the nature, position and movement of sound and/or light.
The above is a wireframe rendering of the virtual sphere. The spheres may all be scaled separately from 8 inches to 12' feet in diameter.
The above rendering represents a performance space with: a User (1), speakers (2) and Vive Base Stations (3). Considerations for a lighting modality via Touchdesigner generative video software includes a projector overhead to project lighting effects down upon the floor (4), and a white dance floor for the projection (5).
The user(s) wears HTC Vive trackers on their hands, feet, torso, head, knee… any point on the body where one would like an active tracking point. These body parts move across and through the sphere’s boundary layers and volumes which may be assigned to parameters controlling sound via a polyphonic sampling synthesizer, filter, reverb and ambisonics spatial control.
